Job Description

Senior Database Developer (SDD) works in the IT department and is responsible for the development and maintenance of database solutions while following specific coding standards. SDD will analyze current database procedures in order to develop comprehensive solutions to modernize, streamline and/or eliminate inefficient coding. This involves monitoring, troubleshooting and debugging databases to solve performance issues. The SDD also create ad-hoc scripts and cleanup scripts as needed. In addition, the SDD will deliver written reports reviewing current coding and make recommendations on changes that should be made to enhance performance. The SDD will collaborate with other members of a development team in order to give and receive feedback, and to develop the best solutions and procedures for supporting the business objectives.

Applicants should have previous experience with database administration, development, data analysis and unit testing. Experience with MS SQL and MySQL development techniques is required, experience in Oracle and any other RDBMS as well as any Non-Relational NoSQL, Key-Value, Document, Graph, Columnar etc. type DB experience is a plus in addition to a bachelor\u0027s degree in computer science or a related field. Appropriate levels of work experience may sometimes be considered an appropriate substitute for a degree. SDD’s should be highly organized, with skills that include excellent written and verbal communication, problem solving, data analysis, and the ability to work alone or with others as needed. Knowledge and work experience with multi-database environments is integral to this position, so prior experience is a plus. Outside technologies and development programs that are used vary depending on business requirements, so the ability to pick up technical skills quickly and adapt to new technologies as they are introduced is imperative.

Senior Database Developer requirements:

  • Interact with business analyst to develop database solutions that meet business requirements.

  • Document work of operational responsibilities.

  • Support application of business intelligence and marketing automation solutions.

  • Support the database services in the design, delivery and daily operations of database solutions.

  • Support all aspects of database solutions for SQL and MySQL environments, with at least a working knowledge of Oracle.

  • Constant operational efficiency reviews and improvements

  • Installing and upgrading the database server and application tools

  • Allocating system storage and planning storage requirements for the database system

  • Modifying the database structure, as necessary, from information given by application developers

  • Enrolling users and maintaining system security

  • Ensuring compliance with database vendor license agreement

  • Controlling and monitoring access to the database

  • Monitoring and optimizing the performance of the database

  • Planning for backup and recovery of database information

  • Maintaining archived data

  • Backing up and restoring databases

  • Lead data recovery for Disaster Recovery events and tests

  • Contacting database vendor for technical support

  • Generating various reports by querying from database as per need

  • Managing and monitoring data replication

  • Acting as liaison with users
