Job Description

The VP, Divisional Merchandise Manager will develop and implement merchandising strategies to achieve sales, gross margin and inventory turn for assigned categories.

Responsibilities include:

  • Sets the vision for their categories in terms of areas of growth and trend, working with their team to develop strategic plans to achieve these goals.
  • Develops and builds a cohesive and high performing team. Leads a team of off-price retail buyers.  Fosters an environment that promotes personal development, high morale amongst the team and personally sets the example.
  • Has strong relationships with off-price suppliers within their categories and continually grows the vendor network.
  • Strengthens relationships with known brands that drive value and appeal to our customers. Identifies trends and seeks new upscale brands to fill voids.
  • Build strong partnerships with Planning and Allocation, Marketing, Store Operations and Supply Chain to consistently execute a strong merchandise assortment.
  • Has an eye toward continuous improvement of all processes to improve speed to the market and first call from leading off price vendors.
  • Negotiates with vendors on pricing, exclusive products and other terms to ensure best value for our customer.
  • Regularly monitor, analyze and report on business performance and identify trends to maximize growth opportunities.

Qualified candidates will possess:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 15 years retail merchandising experience and at least 3 years in a DMM capacity.
  • Experience in off-price retail.
  • Excellent financial and analytical background.
  • Strong negotiating skills.
  • Licensing experience is a plus.
  • Product development and sourcing experience is a plus but not necessary.
  • Has experience traveling to overseas factories to select product and assess product manufacturing.
  • Ability to identify, develop and manage existing business and spot future trends.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact and influence all levels of management.
  • Excellent reputation in the marketplace for vendor management.
  • Proven team-building skills, with a strong interest in professional development.
  • Strong PC skills including Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Ability to work in an environment of uncertainty and yet be strategic, directional, and disciplined in staying focused on delivering customer value.
