Job Description

Manager of Inventory Control

In this hands-on role, the Manager of Inventory Control will lead and manage company-wide
inventory control functions, including the analysis and reconciliation of on-hand inventory in all
Company stores and DCs, as well as, the development and maintenance of policies, procedures
and controls to ensure accurate and timely reporting of inventory held in retail store and distribution
center locations. This includes oversight of inventory cycle count processes, verification of the
accuracy and completeness of physical inventory adjustments recorded, and investigation and
effective communication of inventory adjustment root causes for future system and business process
improvements. While leading a team of direct/indirect reports, this individual will also serve as a
proactive business partner, providing timely, insightful analysis to multiple areas of the business in
support of dynamic business needs.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Manages and audits inventory control and perpetual inventory procedures to ensure accurately
and timely validation of inventory existence and on-hand accuracy; includes effectively
interfacing with a third-party service provider for accurate posting of final, audited cycle count
results
• Ensures accurate reconciliation between financial systems, including the Stock Ledger, and
operational systems (warehouse management systems)
• Provide robust inventory variance and damages analyses and reporting, supported by
complete and accurate evidence of amounts recorded and calculations performed
• Maintains flow charts and required control evidence to support the performance of assigned control
activities
• Ensure adequate internal controls and associated segregation of duties are in place with the
implementation of new processes and systems related to inventory control
• Direct oversight of Distribution Center Inventory Control teams driving overall strong performance,
process improvement, skill building, cross-training and growth and promotion of safety procedures
within each facility
• Partner with Accounting, Finance, Merchants, Supply Chain, Store Operations, Loss Prevention
and IT to ensure accurate Stock Ledger and perpetual inventory records, development of new or
enhanced inventory reporting, system data, and associated business processes
• Continuously monitor departmental processes against industry best practices, perform
appropriate benchmarking, implement process improvements and identify/implement
productivity and control enhancements

Qualifications:
• Demonstrated analytical and reporting abilities
• Ability to effectively communicate in both verbal and written form with all levels of
Management, both financial and operational
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Thrives in a fast-paced, multi-tasking, deadline-driven, high volume, dynamic business
environment
• Working knowledge of inventory accounting and control systems/applications

Education and/or Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
• 5-7+ years professional experience in inventory control processes within stores and distribution
centers
• 2+ years in a supervisory role with both local and remote direct and indirect reports
• Retail / multi-unit industry inventory experience required
• Knowledge of the Retail Inventory Method preferred
• Public company experience preferred
• Inventory control systems expertise, including warehouse management systems, and ability to
define business requirements for the implementation, and maintenance of system
enhancements and adjustments to data

Certifications or Licenses:
None required

Leadership/Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Up to three direct reports at both local and remote locations
• Up to 22 indirect reports at distribution center locations
• Indirect cross-functional leadership scope spanning operations
• Ability to influence others

Other Skills & Abilities:
• Prior experience managing cycle count staff and activities at remote locations is preferred
• Strong business partner with the ability to provide insightful analysis and presentations
• Proven leadership and cross-functional teamwork skills
• Continuous improvement oriented
• High degree of integrity and professionalism
• Strong project management and organizational skills necessary for success
• Highly motivated individual self-starter who takes ownership of projects and tasks with little
supervision
• Ability to understand entity-wide implications of processes and decisions
• Strong proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Warehouse management system proficiency

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
• Most tasks are performed in a corporate office environment
• Some tasks require limited travel (up to 5%) to distribution centers, stores, and other off-site
facilities
