Risk Management & Claims Specialist

This position will be primarily responsible for investigating, analyzing and managing in-house general liability, auto liability and property damage claims in order to efficiently and effectively bring claims to satisfactory closure while maintaining good customer relations.  Additional responsibilities include assisting with the workers compensation claims handling process, preparing periodic department reports, certificate of insurance management, and other administrative duties to support the Risk Management Department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties not listed may be assigned.

  • Receive and document original general liability, auto liability, property damage and workers compensation claim reports
  • Communicate with customers, employees, managers, witnesses and other relevant parties to gather detailed facts of each incident
  • Determine and evaluate injury/damages of each claim and extent of liability to assess proper claim handling
  • Timely report and monitor claims in collaboration with Third Party Administrator
  • Work collaboratively with other departments in obtaining and/or providing information or documentation needed to properly analyze the claim for liability, subrogation or to assist with litigation matters
  • Negotiate settlements and ensure that claims are resolved appropriately and timely
  • Manage claim recoveries, including but not limited to third-party subrogation
  • Assist Workers Compensation Claims Analyst with claim processing as required
  • Assist Senior Manager, Risk Management and Senior Manager, Loss Prevention/Safety with identifying loss trends
  • Participate in quarterly claim file reviews with third-party claims administrator
  • Manage Certificate of Insurance program
  • Administrative duties such as processing mail, processing invoices for payment, etc., gathering insurance renewal data, as needed.

 Education and/or Experience

  • 3-5 years general liability, auto liability, property and workers compensation claims handling and risk management experience
  • Previous experience in Retail Risk Management preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • College degree preferred ( will consider equivalent years Risk Management and Insurance experience)
  • Thorough knowledge of appropriate risk management and insurance principles, claim handling guidelines, legal and medical terminology
