Staff Accountant (Shared Services)

The Staff Accountant will prepare monthly journal entries related to payroll and payroll taxes, benefits, accounts payable, travel and corporate credit card transactions as well as other recurring charges.  Participates in month-end procedures to validate completeness of expenses using General Ledger data and reporting systems and analysis skills. Ensures the established internal controls are adhered to in the performance of assigned tasks.  Responsibilities also include the preparation of multiple balance sheet reconciliations, and analyzing and resolving discrepancies by researching, validating and correcting data as required for payroll and accounts payable accounts. Additionally, this position serves an analytical role that creates, implements and assists in the monitoring of metrics and providing both standard monthly variance and trend analysis as well as ad-hoc reports.  Accomplishing these objectives will require accurate accounting, analysis and reporting, effective cross-functional collaboration, and project participation and management, and will include recommendation and implementation of innovative solutions.

  • Accounting experience required, to include completion of month-end duties including journal entries, account reconciliations, and analysis
  • Analytical skills: Experience in troubleshooting and conducting research and reconciliation.   
  • Ability to serve as back-up for various tasks in the Shared Services organization
  • Ability to identify root cause for problems and the ability to identify and purpose a corrective course of action
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and follow through to resolve any outstanding issues
  • Ability to adapt to changing business environment and support of multiple demands
  • Ability to analyze/interpret data and recommend and take appropriate action
  • Independently prioritize and effectively accomplish multiple tasks within established timeframes
  • Focus on customer service and satisfaction, in a balanced approach, including regularly publishing a holistic Shared Services performance dashboard
  • Efficiently create complex documents, reports, and analysis using spreadsheet software
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis, as assigned
  • Assist in preparing/maintaining SOPs, process maps, and internal control documentation
  • Assist with audit preparation/responses, as assigned
  • Motivated, self-driven, resourceful

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • At least two years of accounting experience required
  • Familiarity of accounts payable and payroll processing is strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of accounting-related reporting and analysis and reconciliation in payroll and accounts payable disciplines is highly preferred
  • Proficient in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Must be detailed-oriented, a team player, professional and ethical
  • Must have a proactive approach and strong organizational skills
  • Excellent time management and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent oral & written communication skills

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Intermediate math skills
