Job Description


The DC Transportation Manager is responsible for managing the daily activities of the Transportation department on all shifts to ensure timely delivery of all products to service the stores. This is to include supervision, proper utilization of space, equipment usage, and manpower planning. Key responsibilities include: DC standard operating procedures, departmental and productivity, departmental and quality, safety, security, and housekeeping.

Management, Results and Accountability:                                                                                                                    50%

  • This position supervises a team of approximately 6 associates of the transportation department and is responsible for leadership, performance management, and hiring and releasing of all associates within its department in compliance with company policy and HR partnership.
  • Serve as a liaison between Transportation and Tuesday Morning internal functions and external entities.
  • Ensure that Distribution Centers and stores\u0027 transportation-related requirements are met; while complying with SOX process documentation.
  • Work with corporate and local partners to establish and maintain carrier agreements.
  • Partner with transportation, operations and carrier partners to ensure trailer pool needs are appropriately forecasted and available.
  • Ensure all parties are adhering to agree upon service level commitments.
  • Coordinate and schedule delivery pickups and delivery times.
  • Establish and maintain all necessary report metrics intend to illustrate transportation results and service levels.
  • Traffic flow from the distribution center to stores within its service area and designated pool points
  • Staff, train, manage, coach/mentor, discipline, and develop associates to ensure effective and efficient operation of the Transportation department.
  • Improve outbound carrier costs by driving utilization of carrier drivers, increased driver turns and working with operations to improve trailer cube and reduce overall area miles.
  • Continuously Improve service, on-time service, load quality and store support requirements.
  • Manage, monitor and improve area inbound/import container processes, track and monitor inbound shipments; manage timely flow into Distribution Centers and improve backhaul percentages to outbound routes.
  • Manage and ensure that equipment is in adequate supply and performing to FMCSA and DOT standards.
  • Ensure all department goals are met; produce daily, weekly, monthly internal/external performance reports.
  • Oversee audit process on Inbound & Outbound invoices, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge on Transportation, and Government regulations through industry & DOT publications
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Communication and Customer Service:                                                                                                                        25%         

  • Partner with Operations to ensure process are established and followed to create the maximum outbound cube.
  • Partner with Store Operations to gain feedback and partner with operations to establish corrective measures as needed.
  • Improve store service and garner additional perspective through the participation in store visits.

  • Responsible for maintaining a positive work environment while supporting the company’s Culture.
  • Responsible for fostering a healthy and safe work environment, focusing on the well- being of the Distribution Center associates.       
  • Maintains and strengthens internal, external customer, stores and supplier relationships. Communicates and works with Supply Chain partners in Transportation, Planning and Analysis, Merchants, Store Operations, and Merchandise Allocation to flow product through the Distribution Center in the most cost efficient and productive manner.

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5-7+ years of operations supervision in Logistics/Distribution/Supply-Chain/Transportation Warehousing
  • Broad knowledge of transportation management systems.
  • Management Skills preferred with emphasis on leadership, supervision, motivation, communication and planning.
  • Analytical skills to include problem identification and resolution.
  • Working knowledge of a Windows based computer environment.

Working Conditions:

Ambient room temperatures, lighting, and traditional office equipment as found in any typical office environment, as well as a range of outside environmental conditions found in the Distribution Centers, hot in the summer, cold in the winter. Individuals may need to  walk for an extensive period of time while working and walking the facilities; to reach over shoulder heights; bend or stoop below the waist; repetitive wrist, hand, or finger movement; occasional lifting up to 30 pounds.
